Days After begins with the chilling statement, “From now on, your life is all about survival.” Next, you can choose between a male or female hero; both are full of character and great attitude. In the game, tasks are displayed in the middle of the screen, along with statistics for how well you are doing (with a maximum percentage score) lined up to the left side beneath the hit points bar. The right side is a mini-map – used to help keep track of where you are – and any weapons or items you collect during gameplay.
As a survivor of the apocalypse, you must do all that you can to protect yourself and the people closest to you from dangerous assailants like zombies by building simple shelters with what little resources you can scavenge and create from scratch. Utilize their help wisely as you try to take care of them when they become ill or injured.
Each level offers you a new challenge as you complete the tasks to build your house physically. Some stories have a big focus on gathering resources so that you can create and furnish your home. For example, in one level, you are tasked with finding Iron Ore to use later to forge Nails to build structures within the game. I was one of those people who were initially very concerned that this game seemed like a ripoff of Last Day on Earth. However, after spending some time with the game, I can honestly say it’s not what I expected – and in fact, it’s better!! This game is fun, addictive, rewarding, and overall fantastic. The grind isn’t too arduous, to begin with, and is perfectly balanced by the rate at which your character will level up – you kill enough zombies per day, you’ll level up just fine. The equipment is pretty cool, and each weapon level has a different look (with gems) which builds the image of your character as the stronger their weapons get. And the locations are fantastic! My only real complaint is that it’s too easy to delete items I don’t want to lose accidentally. Other than that? A perfect score.
